Description:
A Fringe premiere of Francis Poulenc's early 1950s iconic opera La Voix Humaine (lyrics by Jean Cocteau). The immediacy of the dear John drama of everyman – rejection of a once beautiful lover for another younger model. The phallic telephone – a communication tool with its putative umbilical cord, not pen and paper or text or even e-mail, rings the unrequited lover to ever more urgent yet unheeded pleadings to embrace the exploding toll of the 45 bullet.
