Description:
Geoff Palmer, born in Jamaica immigrated to London in 1955. He is Professor Emeritus in the School of Life Sciences at Heriot-Watt University. A prominent human rights activist, he has written extensively on race relations and the history of slavery in the West Indies. He is a freeman of Midlothian and Honorary Consul for Jamaica in Scotland. He was awarded a Knighthood in 2014 for contributions to science, charity and human rights. He has been named among the 100 Great Black Britons. Here he selects five pieces of music that have particular resonance for him.
