Description:
Scots have often salved their consciences over slavery by explaining it as an English phenomenon; only a handful of ships left Scotland for the triangular trade and it barely registers in comparison to cities like Liverpool and Bristol. Yet this history needs to be challenged. Slavery provided a huge number of jobs for Scots and money flowed from Scottish-owned plantations back to the home country. In this session, three of Scotland’s leading activists on reparative justice will analyse the debt that Scotland owes to the transatlantic slave trade.
