Description:
A digital screening of Kazakhstan’s ART Theatre’s reimagining of Günter Grass’s landmark novel. Oskar Matzerath grows up amid the rise of National Socialism, observing the world around him with a merciless, sarcastic and perceptive gaze. His constant companion is a tin drum, through which he expresses his response to a society becoming increasingly indifferent to growing evil. Director Anton Bolkunov replaces large sections of text with a musical score, extreme vocals, movement and visual theatre, creating a distinctive theatrical interpretation in which visual, performative and musical elements become the driving force of the production.
